On Monday 26th June, both Foundation classes went on a trip to Pennywell Farm!
This linked in with our recent learning on the topic of animals. It was such a fun-filled, action packed day and we got involved with so many different farming activities. These included: bottle-feeding the lambs, holding little piglets, milking Lily the goat, finding newts in the pond, cuddling guinea pigs, rabbits, mice and chicks, hand feeding the goats and going for a ride on the tractor and trailer! As you can imagine we were thoroughly worn out afterwards but we had such an amazing experience!
Our farm guides were so knowledgeable and answered our many questions. They taught us so many interesting facts. Did you know that a piglet will stay in its mummy’s tummy for 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days before being born? Also, did you know that a baby hedgehog is called a hoglet?
We are following up our trip by writing recounts about our experiences, designing our own farm, role-playing with the farm animals and finding out our class’ favourite farm animal.
A huge thank you to the parents who came with us. We just about resisted the urge to smuggle some of the cute animals in our backpacks but are considering saving up for a school pet….
