Year 6 Birch at the Allotment

We were fortunate to have lovely weather during our visit to the allotment where we discovered ripe, juicy watermelons.  Jason explained how watermelons have evolved over time through careful seed selection.  Did you know that in 3000BC watermelons were only 5cm in diameter and full of seeds?

We picked broad bean pods which had gone past their best for eating but which contained ripe and ready beans for planting.  Jason explained how he will carefully select the healthiest beans to plant, in order to maximise the chance of a good crop next year.

We brought back a couple of aubergines which we are going to cook with next week … watch this space!
