Welcome to Foundation!
A very warm welcome to Foundation and to Laira Green School! We hope you have had a good summer. We’re very much looking forward to seeing your child start school on Monday 12th September.
You will have been told if your child has a morning or an afternoon session for the first three days. For these first few days you are welcome to bring your child in to the unit, through the side gate in the bottom playground, where a member of staff will welcome you and support your child to find their peg etc. You will be able to help settle them into the classroom if you feel it’s necessary. From Thursday 15th onwards we will be encouraging the children to line up at the 8.45am bell and say goodbye to you on the bottom playground.
End of the Day
At the end of the school day, please wait up on the top playground ready to collect your child. When we dismiss the children we will do so one at a time when we see each child’s parent. This does take time initially as we are learning all the new faces but it is important that each child is safely dismissed at the end of the day.
Snacks and Drink
All children are allowed to bring a named plastic bottle of water into school for a drink during the day. Additionally all children will have the opportunity to eat a piece of fruit for a snack. This is provided by the school and is free for all children in the early years. If you wish, you may provide your child with an extra fruit snack – just in case the day’s choice is not to their taste!
We have provided you with a copy of our topic overview for this term, so that you are aware of what your child will be learning. You may be able to support them at home, for example, by going to the library and finding books linked to your child’s topic work. We would also really appreciate help and support for the home learning tasks (see back of leaflet) which are usually extraordinary pieces of shared work.
Please could we also remind you to label all of your child’s clothes and belongings. Many will be wearing identical pieces of clothing and it is very difficult to identify the owners of unnamed possessions. All children are expected to wear the correct uniform each day.
We have been busy during the holidays making an exciting Foundation environment for your children with lots of lovely experiences. Our aim is for each child to have a smooth and happy start to their school life.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon,
The Foundation Team
