What did we do at Pennywell Farm? E i e i o?
We….. held a rabbit, guinea pig, turkey chick, rat, mouse, piglet, duckling, stroked a hedgehog, fed the sheep and the deer, met the ponies, collected eggs, milked a goat, saw a puppet show, bottle fed the lambs and went pond dipping! We even managed a picnic lunch in the shade. Wow what a lot! We had a great day, a big thank you to Kira’s mum, Reece’s mum, Billy’s mum, Rodrigo’s mum and Lark’s mum for helping and also a big thank you to Julia and Terri from Pennywell who took us to each activity and taught us so much about the animals.
We took advantage of the lovely weather and used the year 1 and 2 playground to practice our skills with the small PE equipment and use the trim trail. We kept in the shade as much as possible and had plenty to drink. We hope that you like these action shots!
This week for part of our ‘Keeping safe’ topic we have been thinking how to keep our animal friends safe and well. We have found about how to look after pets properly, about people who help animals that are poorly or not well looked after, we have made our own vet role play area, made lists of pets, have written about our pets and some of us have even made up some alien pets!
Mrs Hemingway brought in her pet guinea pig George to meet us. Some of us have written a guinea pig fact sheet after we found out how to look after him.
Reception Home Learning
Thank you to all of you who supported our home learning activities for our sense of place topic. We had some lovely pictures and paintings of the children’s homes and some super mini gardens. Watch out Alan Titchmarsh!
Foundation Garden Afternoon
A big, big thank you to: Kira’s dad, Charlie’s dad, Oliviah’s mum, Reece’s mum and Billy’s mum who came to help us with our garden afternoon. Our garden looks fantastic!
We have used some of the Morrison’s voucher scheme to buy seeds, herbs, bug boxes and child size wheel barrows which have all been used to make the garden a much more beautiful place to be this Summer!
The Foundation Team
Bonjour! Our first week back has been a French themed week and we have enjoyed hosting French teachers from our link schools. They shared a special French assembly with us, visited our classes and saw our Read Write Inc session.
We have been learning about how to get to France, famous French landmarks- including making models using the construction kits and making puzzles from pictures. We have counted in French and have been singing some French songs.
We really enjoyed learning about French food- especially tasting the crepes and finding out about our favourite toppings!
We even had a ‘Tour De France’ with the bikes and scooters around the whole of the KS1 playgrounds! What a great first week back.
for the Foundation Summer Term Newsletter!
Thank you to all of our mums who came along to our Yummy Mummy afternoon. The children loved pampering you and making things for their lovely mummies.
We hope that you all had fun and enjoyed your ‘new looks’!!!!

Read, Write Inc parent’s information morning
A big thank you to everyone who attended. We hope that this gave you an insight into our new scheme and how the children progress through it. Well done to our fantastic group of reception children who did a great job with helping us to demonstrate a typical lesson.
We hope to repeat a similar morning on a regular basis.
