The school was treated to a scientific assembly from Future for Science. Some children were able to join a Science Club run by the team and took part in many weird and wonderful experiments!
In Term 3 we are studying Nepal and finding out about the music there. We have started off the topic by creating ‘sound pictures’ to describe a photograph of the local scenery. The children selected three descriptive phrases they had written about a photograph, and then found sounds/instruments that they thought best matched the phrase. Each group then combined the sounds in a structure and used symbols to record their music, keeping to a four beat rhythm.
Here are some examples :
We are continuing the learn to play the Ocarina as part of the ‘Government’s Wider Opportunities’ in Music scheme. Most of us have now completed level 1 on the Ocarina and are now working towards our level 2. We are also looking at Nepal in Term 3 and composing our own pieces of music . We have started off by listening to children in Kathmandu singing a playground chant and then writing our own. We have worked with a partner to record these on to a CD.
Year 4/3 Creative Partnership Project involved printing designs on textiles. Here is a step by step guide to printing your own fabric. The finished product is hanging up in our school hall!
In these photographs, you can see the buggies that the children in class 4/3 DL have made. We were given a piece of wood measuring 60cm that we had to saw into 4 equal pieces. We then used the Jinks method of construction to create a rectangle or a square chassis. We used right angled triangles made from cardboard and PVA glue to join the wood. The dowel and cotton reels were then used for the axle and wheels. Once the basic buggy was made, we could then add our own designs. Lots of us have made a wagon similar to that in our class reader, Danny Champion of the World.
Class 4/3 DL had a lovely afternoon at Manor Court Care Home. They had a ‘pancake party’ on Shrove Tuesday with the residents and played games on the Wii. Great fun was had by all!
The children in class 4/3 DL have been writing dragon stories in their English lessons. Part of the build up to the story writing involved telling the stories to each other. We decided to record the children telling their stories. Enjoy!

Year 4/3 had a great day at Paignton Zoo this term.
They went to the Zoo on one of the coldest days of the year but still managed to see lots of animals. Many of the animals were taking shelter in their enclosures.
