The children in Reception enjoyed a day out at Mount Edgcumbe on our annual summer boat trip.  The weather stayed fine for most of the day and we even saw some blue sky.

The day began with a ferry crossing  to Mount Edgcumbe and a walk around the orangery to see the fountains.  One of the gardeners suggested that we visit the geyser and watch the water shoot 40 feet every 30 seconds. The children loved counting down and seeing the huge jet of water shoot into the air.

We saw Smeaton’s tower in the distance and watched a large frigate sailing out of Plymouth Dockyard.  A walk around the coastal path to see the yachts sailing past built up their appetite for lunch.   We had a picnic on the grass by the beach before beachcombing, rockpooling and paddling. We actually found a jellyfish washed up on the beach!

On to the duckpond –  unfortunately two other schools had got there first but we managed to find a few hungry ducks. We set off up the hill for an end of trip route march to the castle, then a mad scramble all the way down to the bottom of the hill just in time for the ferry home at 2 o’clock.

The children still had enough energy left to play in the park before the coach arrived.  The grown-ups were thoroughly exhausted by this time and managed to crawl to a bench for a well earned rest!

Reception – Claytime at the Drum Theatre 2008 – 09

On Wednesday 13th May the children in Reception visited the Drum Theatre  to see a performance specially created for 3 – 6 year olds.  The play was very funny and it was a joy to see them laughing out loud and jumping up and down with excitement.  Each play is unique: the story, setting and characters are suggested by the children and modelled out of clay by the performers.  Their story was then brought to life using the newly created clay models.

Afterwards, the children were invited to play together on stage alongside the performers to make their own amazing animals, morphing monsters and funny faces from clay.  See some of their wonderful creations in the photographs below.
