Year 1/2 New Year letter to parents
Welcome to Year 1 and Year 2 in 2012!

Spellings – Year 1 and 2
Spellings
Dear Parents/ Carers
This term we would like to try a new way of giving out spellings. We are going to give you a list of all the spellings your child will be expected to learn for the next few weeks until February half term. So please keep it safe and practice the words regularly. See the list attached – week by week. If you lose the sheet, please let us know and we can give you a new one.
We hope this will allow you to revisit all the words covered through the term and will ensure that the children can write these words not only for the tests but daily in their independent writing activities too.
Reading
This term we are also having a big focus on reading. Our records show that children benefit greatly and make better progress from reading at home and we are keen to ensure this takes place. The children are reminded that it is their responsibility to remember to bring their book to school every day even if they haven’t have a chance to read it. We are aware that lots of children do read their books regularly and these children will continue to be rewarded for bringing their books in and for reading with you at home.
Also, last term we had a great amount of books and reading records which were damaged by leaking water bottles, eaten by dogs, ripped by younger brothers or sisters, or simply lost! Please, could you ensure that the books are carried separately from the water bottles and are kept at home safely. We really hope that you will support us in reminding your child to bring their book to school every day. Thank you.
Class Assemblies
In addition we would like to mention that our class assemblies this term will take place within your child’s classroom:
Year 1/ 2 H. – On Friday the 10th February at 14.20
Year 1/ 2 N On Friday the 24th February at 14.20
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to us.

Reception Spring Photos
Another busy term in Reception/ Year 1 classes. As the weather improved we were able to use the outside space for more learning opportunities- let’s hope this continues! Many thanks for your support with the Easter bonnet parade and Mother’s Day pampering. We hope that you get a flavour of your child’s time at school with this selection of photographs- don’t forget to look at the Royal wedding pictures on the website too.

The Royal Wedding in Reception
What a great start to a new term we had with our Royal wedding themed days. As you can see we had a great time: making red, white and blue patterns and bunting, decorating crowns, designing our own wedding cakes, writing menus and invitations, making wedding music, building castles for a prince and princess, looking at wedding artefacts and sharing experiences, Mrs Hemingway even managed to squeeze into her wedding dress!

To finish we had a fun time dressing up and dancing at our wedding party and making and eating food! Busy, busy, busy- thank goodness we had a long weekend for the teachers to recover!
